Umm Al Quwain // A Dh750 million hospital has officially opened in the emirate.

The Sheikh Khalifa General Hospital, funded by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, has clinics specialising in paediatrics, gynaecology, emergency care, dialysis and dermatology.

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister, and Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Ruler of UAQ, opened the 46,000 square-metre facility on Wednesday.

Sheikh Saud thanked the President, Sheikh Khalifa, for providing the emirate with a hospital matching global healthcare standards.

“We are also working on improving health services with good legislation in both the private and public sectors,” Sheikh Saud said.

The hospital is located in the Salama area, opposite the Ministry of Social works. It will complement the existing UAQ hospital built in the 1970s.

Sheikh Mansour said it would provide the citizens of UAQ with top-quality care.

“The completion of this hospital is a translation of the vision of the President, Sheikh Khalifa,” he said. “The tour we have made today around the hospital confirmed to us that the facilities will provide the best health services to the citizens and residents of UAQ.”

The hospital has a general capacity of 203 beds, said Nora Al Shamsi, a senior official at the hospital, which is managed by NMC Healthcare. There is extra capacity in the emergency department.

Ms Al Shamsi said that they had appointed 440 hospital workers and more were on the way.
