Latest: UAE records 380 new cases on Tuesday, as 657 more patients recover

UAE authorities announced a further 378 cases of coronavirus on Monday, taking the total number of infections in the country to 45,303.

Officials also said an additional 631 patients had recovered from the virus, while one patient had died.

To date, 33,046 residents in the Emirates have recovered from the disease, amounting to some 75 per cent of patients.

About 12,000 cases are still active and more than three million people across the UAE have been tested.

Globally, more than nine million cases of Covid-19 have been recorded, contributing to 471,000 fatalities.

The new UAE figures came as authorities took the decision to extend restrictions on entering Abu Dhabi by another week.

Travel is now allowed within the emirate's regions, but crossing into the emirate from Dubai is still not permitted without first obtaining a permit.

Officials confirmed it is still possible for Abu Dhabi residents to leave the emirate and that the transport of goods between the capital and Dubai continued as normal.

Initial restrictions introduced earlier this month also required Abu Dhabi residents to obtain a permit to leave the emirate, but that decision was later rescinded.

“Following promising indicators in the number of cases found in Covid-19 tests, Abu Dhabi residents may move freely between the emirate’s regions, starting from 6am on Tuesday, June 23," Abu Dhabi Government Media Office said.

“Restrictions on entering Abu Dhabi are being extended by another week, with exemptions for all types of goods and mail, and permit holders.

“Exiting the emirate will continue without a permit.”
