Bystanders rescue cleaners trapped by strong winds

The two women were hailed as heroes by Ajman Civil Defence

Ajman Civil Defence has described two women as heroes after they helped to rescue window cleaners caught out by Wednesday’s storm.

A Moroccan resident and another woman from Greece grabbed two cable lines dangling from a cleaning platform to stop it bashing against the building in high winds.

Cleaners on the platform realised they were in danger when it began swaying violently and looked like it might fall.

But the two onlookers rushed to help stabilise the rig until rescue teams arrived.

“The women saw what was happening and spotted the cable of the scaffold,” said Lt Col Raed Al Zaabi, of Ajman Civil Defence.

“They kept hold of it until Civil Defence arrived and rescued the men. The women sustained minor injuries as a result of their heroic act.

“They received treatment on site while both workers were unharmed.”
