Building boom continues for hospitals

DUBAI // A hospital building boom is in full swing across the Northern Emirates. A top health official noted yesterday that three hospitals which were handed over to the Ministry of Health last year, at a cost of Dh279 million, are expected to open this year.

The Ministry of Public Works will also hand one over this year, while five more projects are under construction but have no completion dates yet.

Expected to open this year are the 42-bed Masafi Hospital in Fujairah, the 15-bed Al Qassimi Cardiology Surgery Building in Sharjah, and the 176-bed Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Gynaecology and Obstetrics Hospital in Ajman, at a total cost of Dh279m, funded by the Government and Sheikh Khalifa, the President of the UAE.

In Umm al Qaiwain, meanwhile, the 200-bed, Dh500m Khalifa Hospital, funded by the Government and Sheikh Khalifa, will be finished this year.

The five other projects under construction have at an estimated total cost of up to Dh1.25 billion.
