Food authorities have banned a baby milk product that it said is contaminated with bacteria. The product, a Turkish breast milk substitute called "Hero", contains the bacterium Enterobacter sakazaki, which the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority said is harmful for infants. The contaminated batch was produced on or after May 12, 2009 and includes the 150g bottles.
The agency asked consumers who bought the product to destroy it immediately, but did not say how many were in stock in the emirate. The milk was found to be contaminated when the ADFCA tested the contents in its own labs, but did not say if they were responding to a tip-off from consumers or an international warning.
