DUBAI // Cancer patients can focus more on their battle with the disease and less on what it is costing them after an agreement between the Dubai Health Authority and Dubai Islamic Humanitarian Foundation.
The two bodies will cover the cost of treating cancer patients at Dubai Hospital, the state news agency Wam reported.
The foundation will provide Dh500,000 a year towards the cost of treatment, accommodation and medication.
"This initiative will help relieve the burden of patients and their families who face financial difficulties," said Essa Al Maidoor, director general of the DHA.
"It aims to support and strengthen the efforts of charitable and humanitarian activities in the UAE."
Mr Al Maidoor yesterday signed the agreement with the foundation's chief executive, Abdul Razzaq Al Abdullah.
Mr Al Maidoor said the emirate played an important role in charitable and humanitarian activities, in line with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.
"The agreement with the DHA will relieve cancer patients and their loved ones from financial burdens," said Mr Al Abdullah.
The agreement was signed in the presence of other officials from the authority and the foundation, Wam reported.
