The majority of the fines were issued for the use of expired or fake products and unsterilized tools. Some employers were also fined for not issuing their staff health insurance.

The final few days of Ramadan tend to be a busy time for salons as many prepare to look their best before Eid Al Fitr.

“Beauty salons and barber shops are always monitored by the municipality. We take strict measures to deter offenders to avoid any risks that might affect the public health,” said Hassan Al Yamahi, director general of the municipality.

“We also carry out awareness campaigns on social media to raise the public and employees awareness in this matter and on the importance of applying the guidelines and laws related to the public health safety,” he said.

The municipality called on the public to report any suspected health and safety breaches to this number: 09 244 3399.
