Four harassment cases have been reported to police in Sharjah this year.
They involved men harassing women in public places such as in malls and via telephone calls.
Col Ibrahim Al Ajel, acting CID director, said cases of verbal harassment were usually dealt with at police stations.
“However, if a person harasses another by touching, it is considered a criminal case and an investigation is carried out and witness testimonies would be heard.”
He said most cases involved teenagers who were unaware of the consequences.
