ABU DHABI // Known for his energy and persistence, Hamad Al Rahoomi is one member the public are unequivocally happy with.
After an active election campaign, Mr Al Rahoomi transferred his energy to the FNC where he made the first stand to question the Minister of Environment and Water on the sunken ship in Umm Al Quwain, which carrying tonnes of diesel.
In the first session he also asked for a temporary committee to be set up to continue the work of the previous council, studying obstacles facing Emiratisation.
The committee has since presented its report to the council, demanding Emiratisation quotas and that the Government subsidise UAE nationals’ salaries in the private sector.
Aside from being active on social media, Mr Al Rahoomi has planned a number of public majlis meetings, along with other Dubai FNC members.
Hani Alawadhi, a Dubai-based follower of the council’s work, said Mr Al Rahoomi has shown a keenness and openness to listen to “the nation’s children” and has kept an eye on people’s opinions and problems through social media and majlis meetings.
“I noticed this through my communication with him. I noticed his eagerness to seek out information and his drive to solve problems as much as he could, despite the FNC being an advisory body and not a legislative one.”
Over the past three years, Mr Al Rahoomi developed a reputation of being one of the most vocal in the council, among the most frequent questioners of the Government. He has brought to the council issues related to education, pensions and providing aid to disabled children.
Mr Al Rahoomi has also asked a number of questions related to unemployment, demanding that career fairs be monitored to ensure they lead to actual employment of nationals.
More controversial subjects have included the need to allow imams to practice faith healing and questioning the need to raise housemaids’ salaries based on their embassies’ request.
