ABU DHABI // A man accused of insulting the UAE and its rulers on Twitter claimed the tweets were posted by hackers.
N F, 27, is on trial at the Federal Supreme Court for using social media to “publish rumours, ideas and information that stirred hatred and disturbed the public order and peace”.
He is also accused of insulting the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and “other leaders and symbols of the country”.
The court heard he described the Judicial Department as a “farce” during the 2012 sedition trial, which led to a group of men being jailed for running a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood.
N F’s lawyer, Yousif Al Ali, said his client claimed his account has been hacked, and requested an IT expert be summoned to give evidence.
The prosecution, however, said N F had already confessed to the charges during questioning.
Judge Falah Al Hajeri accepted the lawyer’s request and adjourned the case to June 15.
