ABU DHABI // The Vice President visited the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi on Monday at Al Bahr Palace to discuss national issues.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, discussed the course of national development in sync with the vision of the President, Sheikh Khalifa.
During the meeting, they voiced pride in the Year of Giving initiative and young people’s achievements, reported Wam, the state news agency. The meeting was attended by other Sheikhs and senior officials.
The leaders also received a delegation from the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation, congratulating the athletes on their winning achievements over the past two years.
Last October, UAE fighters won nine medals in the Asian Beach Games in Vietnam, and eight medals in the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Turkmenistan. The UAE’s Faisal Al Ketbi won a gold medal at the World Championship in Poland.
The team won 19 medals in the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu Tour in Los Angeles last September, 13 during the second tour in Tokyo, and 24 in the third in Rio de Janeiro.
During the fourth tour last week, the team won 105 medals.

Pharaoh's curse
British aristocrat Lord Carnarvon, who funded the expedition to find the Tutankhamun tomb, died in a Cairo hotel four months after the crypt was opened.
He had been in poor health for many years after a car crash, and a mosquito bite made worse by a shaving cut led to blood poisoning and pneumonia.
Reports at the time said Lord Carnarvon suffered from “pain as the inflammation affected the nasal passages and eyes”.
Decades later, scientists contended he had died of aspergillosis after inhaling spores of the fungus aspergillus in the tomb, which can lie dormant for months. The fact several others who entered were also found dead withiin a short time led to the myth of the curse.
