UAE leaders offer condolences to Iranian president

ABU DHABI // President Sheikh Khalifa sent a cable of condolences to Hassan Rouhani, president of Iran, on the death of former president Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani on Sunday.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, sent similar messages of condolence.

Rafsanjani died aged 82 in hospital on Sunday after suffering a heart attack, according to the ISNA and Fars news agencies. He served as president of Iran from 1989 to 1997.

All UAE leaders extended condolences to the family of the deceased as well.
