UAE laboratory signs agreements to regulate safe use of new technologies

A UAE laboratory tasked with shaping laws to keep pace with the development of new technologies has struck two key deals. RegLab signed co-operation agreements with Dubai's Supreme Legislation Committee and the Dubai Future Foundation on Thursday as part of an effort to create a safe environment for testing experimental technologies. The partnership with the Supreme Legislation Committee will support the development of draft legislation for regulating projects licensed by RegLab. It will also provide legal support for testing in co-ordination with local government authorities. The Dubai Future Foundation, as part of its agreement, will help RegLab design and manage its website to facilitate the process of submitting and reviewing applications. The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, attended the official signings. The signing ceremony was also attended by Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs. "The legislative structure in the UAE is one of the most advanced globally, and through our co-operation with the RegLab, we seek to provide solutions to overcome any legislative obstacles that may rise during the implementation of projects," said Ahmed bin Mishar, secretary general of Dubai's Supreme Legislation Committee. "We also seek to participate in developing preliminary drafts of legislation aimed at regulating projects submitted to the RegLab." RegLab was represented at the signing ceremony by the Secretariat General of the UAE Cabinet at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, including Abdulla Bintouq, secretary general of the UAE Cabinet at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and the Future. Khalfan Belhoul, chief executive of Dubai Future Foundation, said the agreement with RegLab "is also part of our efforts to promote exchange of knowledge and experiences between government entities to create an integrated system that can effectively govern the use of advanced technologies". Also as part of the co-operation, specialised workshops on future technologies such as artificial intelligence will be organised.
