ABU DHABI // Two hundred tonnes of humanitarian aid has been shipped to the Gaza Strip as part of the UAE Compassion campaign, Tarahamu.
The Emirates Red Crescent and Mohammed Al Dhaheri, UAE ambassador to Egypt, oversaw the aid shipment, state news agency Wam reported.
Mr Al Dhaheri directed embassy staff to cooperate with ERC to send the aid, which was the second shipment as part of the campaign. The Palestine Red Crescent Society received the aid shipment at the Rafah border crossing and commended the donations, Wam said.
ERC also has distributed aid to 4,000 Syrian refugee families in Jordan affected by winter storms as part of Tarahamu. Four teams were making four rounds daily to distribute aid that included blankets, heaters and food, said Mubarak Al Junaibi, the UAE relief team leader.
Sheikh Khalifa, the President, launched the Tarahamu campaign, which was followed up on by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.
