ABU DHABI // Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, has renewed the UAE’s commitment to the United Nations and its humanitarian work across the globe.
In a speech marking the 69th United Nations Day, Sheikha Lubna reiterated the nation’s quest to forge partnerships and coordinate actively with organisations affiliated to the UN, said state news agency Wam.
She said the partnership, which has led to the UAE working with the UN on humanitarian and development causes, strengthens the country’s efforts as a major donor for development and humanitarian assistance and has put the UAE among the ranks of countries which respond to humanitarian crises all over the world.
United Nations Day is celebrated on October 24 every year and marks the work of the organisation to achieve international cooperation, peace and global stability.
Sheikha Lubna highlighted the UAE’s role in aiding developing countries, poor communities and in disaster areas, as guided by the UN.
The UAE joined the UN in December 1971 after becoming an independent nation.
Sheikha Lubna said the country was aware of the need to deepen its partnership with the UN to find solutions to the issues facing the world.
“As we recall the tremendous efforts and achievements made, thanks to the partnership between the international community and the United Nations, we look forward to a better future for unified efforts and perspectives to confront the problems and threats that affect our safety and security, as well as the stability of humanity.”
