Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid has posted a message on Twitter thanking the organisers of Dubai's New Year's Eve's dramatic firework display.

The Ruler of Dubai tweeted photos of the celebrations and said how proud he was of the spectacular event.

“Millions celebrated in Dubai yesterday...and hundreds of millions viewed its celebrations...which ran smoothly and efficiently," he wrote.

"We thank the unknown soldiers who were behind the event’s success...the event's management committee. I’m always proud of you."
