The media is a key partner in the development of the nation, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, said on Wednesday, state news agency Wam reported.

“Media is one of the most important factors in the holistic national strategy to counter threats and challenges facing the nation,’’ Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed said.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi received editors-in chief belonging to the local and international media at Al Bateen Palace. Also present was Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Media Council.

Sheikh Mohammed said the UAE leadership was always keen to support the media in carrying out its responsibility amid the changes that “our Arab region and the world at large are experiencing”.

He said the UAE leadership had faith in the media and that it had an important role in promoting Emirati culture and its values of tolerance, openness and moderation. This was particularly important during a time when terrorists and extremist groups were trying to defame Islam.

Sheikh Mohammed said journalists were like UAE servicemen fighting to protect the nation.

The Crown Prince exchanged Ramadan greetings with the editors and discussed a wide range of matters with them.
