Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, spoke with the US president Barack Obama on Monday about regional issues.
The discussion is part of a regular consultation between the two countries, the White House said.
Mr Obama reaffirmed his commitment to the United States’ strong partnership with the UAE. The two “shared views on a range of regional issues and common security challenges” and agreed to continue.
Mr Obama will travel to Saudi Arabia later this month to meet with King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud “to advance a range of common interests related to Gulf and regional security, peace in the Middle East, countering violent extremism, and other issues of prosperity and security”.
The trip will come after Mr Obama travels to the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy.
