Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed is encouraging a lifelong love of literature after pledging Dh6 million to purchase a collection of books for school libraries.
The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces has offered to donate the sum to buy thousands of books from the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair to be enjoyed by learners across the country.
The investment is being made in a bid to foster a culture of reading in the country's schools, state news agency Wam reported.
Hussain Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, thanked Sheikh Mohamed for helping young people to further their education.
The generous donations comes after the Ruler of Sharjah provided Dh2.5 million to fill the emirate's libraries with new publications.
Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi made the announcement after touring the 11th Sharjah Children's Reading Festival at the Sharjah Expo Centre earlier this month.
