Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, met President Mohamed Ghazouani of Mauritania in the UAE capital on Sunday.

The Mauritania national anthem was played and 21-artillery rounds were fired before a group of honour guards lined up to greet Mr Ghazouani, who is on an official state visit to the Emirates, during a welcome ceremony at Qasr Al Watan.

Mr Ghazouani, who took the oath of office in August after winning an election last year, exchanged greetings with sheikhs, ministers and senior officials.

Sheikh Mohamed and Mr Ghazouani then held a meeting to discuss relations and ways of increasing co-operation.

Soon after, the UAE announced the allocation of $2 billion (Dh7.35bn) to fund investment and development projects, as well as a soft loan, for Mauritania.

The investment came on the orders of the President, Sheikh Khalifa and Sheikh Mohamed, state news agency Wam reported.
