More than 61 million transactions were processed by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs last year, a seven per cent increase from 2013.
Maj Gen Mohammad Ahmad Al Marri, the director of the directorate, said the increase is due to staff’s commitment to provide simplified and fast services to the public.
The directorate recorded a seven per cent increase in the number of people travelling via Dubai ports last year, with more than 43.5 million passengers.
Latest figures show that more than 6.8 million people have, in 2014, used Dubai International Airport’s smart gates system, with 336,545 people registered to enter via e-gate.
Maj Gen Al Marri said travellers using the smart gate system wait an average 10 to 15 seconds to get their clearances to enter or exit the country.
