ABU DHABI // More sports clubs will be built in the Northern Emirates, the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Society Development told the Federal National Council.
On Wednesday, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak said the ministry was currently studying the geographical areas that most needed sports clubs.
He said youth were also being surveyed to find out what they looked for in a club.
“I would like to take this opportunity to invite you all to get to know what we mean by supporting youth in the country and putting a strategy for this,” he said.
He said the strategy will soon be presented to the Cabinet.
Dr Sheikha Al Ari (UAQ) said Ras Al Khaimah was in urgent need of more women-only sports clubs because it had only one, adding that the smaller emirate of Umm Al Quwain had two women-only clubs. “This is not a request from me, but from your daughters from RAK,” she said.
Sheikh Nahyan said within their new strategy a club would be built in Ras Al Khaimah for both men and women within the next two years and a new ladies-only club would be built in 2016.
Dr Al Ari said that clubs should be built in the northern and southern parts of the emirate rather than clustered in the centre.
“This is not a request from me, but from your daughters from RAK,” she said.
Sheikh Nahyan said he would speak to Dr Al Ari to find out which areas needed new clubs.
