ABU DHABI // Government employees were briefed on the final details of the Abu Dhabi Plan, which officials hope will prepare the emirate for its post-oil future.
The event took place during Abu Dhabi Government Employees Forum — an annual gathering attended by more than 1,400 employees this year.
It was held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
In attendance was Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed, Vice Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, who was briefed on the plan and given a tour of a video exhibition with details of the plan’s development and timeline.
Also in attendance were Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed, Chairman of the Crown Prince Court and an Executive Council Member and Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
The Abu Dhabi Plan focuses on creating a safe, sustainable, and economically advanced environment.
The plan includes 83 programmes covering the areas of social and economic development, infrastructure, environment, security, and justice,
Policymakers say the plan will play a role in achieving a vision for a “confident and secure society and a sustainable and competitive economy”, reported state media wam.
In a speech given at the forum, Saeed Eid Al Ghafli, Chairman of the Executive Office, said the Abu Dhabi Plan helps achieve the aspirations of President Sheikh Khalifa.
“The excellence of work system, achievement of sustainability, improvement of the government system efficiency, and meeting the current needs and future requirements require continuous review of policies and performance,” he said.
Mr Al Ghalfli added that the progress in the emirate’s development “requires all employees to work efficiently and effectively to maintain these achievements and base on the same in the journey towards comprehensive development”.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa, a member of the Executive Council, said the plan “stimulates the performance of non-oil sectors and achieves cooperation among the government agencies by directing them towards clear and specific goals to meet the needs and aspirations of the Emirate.”
