The Federal Electricity and Water Authority has announced it is to impose an additional fee of 5 fils on its water and electricity tariff for residential, commercial and government sectors. A fee of 4 fils has been imposed on the industrial sector.
Fewa, which supplies electricity and water to Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, and the cities of the East Coast, including the emirate of Fujairah, says it has decreased the water subsidy for Emiratis from 50 per cent to 25 per cent, bringing to the tariff to 1.5 fils per gallon.
Mohammed Saleh, director general of Fewa, said as part of its efforts to save water and power, the authority has launched several initiatives such as the Tarshid Campaign and the Emirates Award for Tarshid, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National.
