The Emirates Red Crescent on Wednesday sent an urgent shipment of food and relief supplies to the Yemeni island of Socotra to aid locals affected by Cyclone Chapala.
The gesture is under of the directives of President Sheikh Khalifa and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
A cargo plane carrying 20 tonnes of essential supplies such as food, medicine, blankets, tents and clothing has been dispatched to help people affected by the hurricane, as part of large-scale humanitarian efforts being carried out by the ERC across Yemen.
Dr Mohammed Atiq Al Falahi, ERC secretary-general, said that the aid organisation launched the humanitarian programme targeting those affected in an effort to alleviate their suffering following the damage the cyclone has caused on the island.
