The Emirates Red Crescent has restored care centres for children with special needs in the Yemeni governorate of Aden, at the directive of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak.

The project is the seventh of 15 being carried out under the initiative initiated by Sheikha Fatima, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union and Family Development Foundation, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Honorary Chairwoman of the ERC.

Her projects are intended to improve basic services in Yemen, while rebuilding the New Dawn Society for Disabled Children, Aden Autistic Children Society and Hayat Society for Early Intervention, state news agency Wam reported.

Recreational and play areas and gardens were also rebuilt, and equipped with furniture and learning assistive technology for people with disabilities. Children were also provided with food aid.

Sheikha Fatima’s projects – particularly those for people with special needs – have been well received by the public, said Brig Aidrous Al Zubaidi, governor of Aden.

He thanked the ERC and the UAE for helping to rebuild the lives of those in his governorate.

Sheikha Fatima’s support will play a vital role in progress towards developing autistic children’s skills and capabilities, said Abeer Al Yousifi, head of the Aden Autistic Children Society.

Sheikha Fatima has also directed the ERC to carry out health, education, water, electricity and mother and childcare projects, as well as other programmes for people with disabilities.
