ABU DHABI // Each emirate will have its own committee for the next Federal National Council (FNC) elections.

The National Election Committee (NEC) approved the formation of the Emirates Committees at a meeting this week, the fifth in a series to prepare for the nation’s third elections.

Dr Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Minister of State for FNC Affairs, headed the meeting.

Dr Gargash, who is also chairman of the NEC, emphasised the need for the committees to adopt and execute instructions early to enhance their performance.

The Emirates Committees, which will fall under the NEC’s executive, are set to be some of the most important units in the election process.

They will work closely with the NEC on technical and administrative matters as elections take place in each emirate.

Officials also reviewed the election budget and the electronic voting project.

Dr Gargash said the NEC was keen to discuss all aspects of the electoral process and that discussions on the progress of work on an electronic voting project confirmed the committee’s eagerness to ensure that a smooth election process took place.
