DUBAI // Owners of residential buildings in Dubai have been given three months to ensure their gyms are up to standard.

The areas must meet certain criteria in compliance with Dubai Municipality’s decision to issue sporting facilities permits to owners of buildings. The move follows the successful implementation of the permit scheme in Central Business District areas.

Hussain Nasser Lootah, director general of the municipality, said the permit scheme was implemented to address a number of issues such as gyms on the roof of buildings being illegally converted into offices and apartments and not complying with the requirements and standards of public health and safety.
