Crown Prince of Dubai reaffirms emirate’s commitment to 'job for every citizen'

The Crown Prince of Dubai has reaffirmed the emirate’s commitment to “a job for every citizen” as part of its Emiratisation programme.

In a series of tweets on Monday, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed described providing a decent way of life for his fellow countrymen as a top priority.

Equipping Emiratis with the skills to thrive in the modern workplace has been a key goal for UAE rulers over recent years.

In May, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, launched a year-long initiative to hone the talents of the Emirati workforce and create an "economic engine" to drive the country forward.

Writing on Twitter, Sheikh Hamdan said: “Dubai Emiratisation Plan of Action has been adopted today in line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, in line with the UAE's Emiratisation goals.

“Our strategic objective is “a job for every citizen” and we are able to achieve this.

“The provision of a decent life for every citizen is a top priority...UAE nationals have proven their worth in various fields and are proud of their achievements.

“During the next phase, we will identify the most important challenges and obstacles that have faced the process of Emiratisation in the past to overcome them.”

Earlier this year, Sheikh Mohammed rolled out the My Skills 12x12 campaign, aimed at arming Emiratis with new knowledge and expertise every month for the next year.

The wide-ranging programme focuses on 12 different skills needed to help cement the UAE as a leading player on the world stage for decades to come.

It was the first in a series of policies to fall under the Strategy for the Advanced Skills National Programme, approved by the UAE Cabinet.

Emiratisation efforts - such as employment open days and collaboration with private sector companies - provided 20,225 job opportunities that benefited 11,700 Emiratis last year, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

WHAT IS A BLACK HOLE?

1. Black holes are objects whose gravity is so strong not even light can escape their pull

2. They can be created when massive stars collapse under their own weight

3. Large black holes can also be formed when smaller ones collide and merge

4. The biggest black holes lurk at the centre of many galaxies, including our own

5. Astronomers believe that when the universe was very young, black holes affected how galaxies formed

How to become a Boglehead

Bogleheads follow simple investing philosophies to build their wealth and live better lives. Just follow these steps.

•   Spend less than you earn and save the rest. You can do this by earning more, or being frugal. Better still, do both.

•   Invest early, invest often. It takes time to grow your wealth on the stock market. The sooner you begin, the better.

•   Choose the right level of risk. Don't gamble by investing in get-rich-quick schemes or high-risk plays. Don't play it too safe, either, by leaving long-term savings in cash.

•   Diversify. Do not keep all your eggs in one basket. Spread your money between different companies, sectors, markets and asset classes such as bonds and property.

•   Keep charges low. The biggest drag on investment performance is all the charges you pay to advisers and active fund managers.

•   Keep it simple. Complexity is your enemy. You can build a balanced, diversified portfolio with just a handful of ETFs.

•   Forget timing the market. Nobody knows where share prices will go next, so don't try to second-guess them.

•   Stick with it. Do not sell up in a market crash. Use the opportunity to invest more at the lower price.

Four motivational quotes from Alicia's Dubai talk

“The only thing we need is to know that we have faith. Faith and hope in our own dreams. The belief that, when we keep going we’re going to find our way. That’s all we got.”

“Sometimes we try so hard to keep things inside. We try so hard to pretend it’s not really bothering us. In some ways, that hurts us more. You don’t realise how dishonest you are with yourself sometimes, but I realised that if I spoke it, I could let it go.”

“One good thing is to know you’re not the only one going through it. You’re not the only one trying to find your way, trying to find yourself, trying to find amazing energy, trying to find a light. Show all of yourself. Show every nuance. All of your magic. All of your colours. Be true to that. You can be unafraid.”

“It’s time to stop holding back. It’s time to do it on your terms. It’s time to shine in the most unbelievable way. It’s time to let go of negativity and find your tribe, find those people that lift you up, because everybody else is just in your way.”

How to turn your property into a holiday home
  1. Ensure decoration and styling – and portal photography – quality is high to achieve maximum rates.
  2. Research equivalent Airbnb homes in your location to ensure competitiveness.
  3. Post on all relevant platforms to reach the widest audience; whether you let personally or via an agency know your potential guest profile – aiming for the wrong demographic may leave your property empty.
  4. Factor in costs when working out if holiday letting is beneficial. The annual DCTM fee runs from Dh370 for a one-bedroom flat to Dh1,200. Tourism tax is Dh10-15 per bedroom, per night.
  5. Check your management company has a physical office, a valid DTCM licence and is licencing your property and paying tourism taxes. For transparency, regularly view your booking calendar.
