The Ministry of Environment and Water has required South Africa, Ethiopia, Somalia, Greece, Australia and Italy to adhere to sanitary and veterinary criteria to ensure continuity of imports of certain types of animals such as cattle, goats, sheep and other cloven hoofed animals, and all types of live domestic birds and wild pet birds from these countries to the UAE.
The countries are required to provide certificates with each cargo of animals, showing that they come from areas that are officially free from diseases such as foot and mouth disease, rift valley fever, mad cow disease, avian flu and others.
All shipments are subject to legislation and laws related to veterinary quarantine and humane laws, which are enforced in the UAE.
