Dubai’s shisha cafes have been warned about flouting a city-wide ban after nine establishments were caught serving customers.

Municipal inspectors found the tobacco on sale in Dubai Marina, International City and the Muteena and Murar districts of Deira, officials said on Tuesday.

Dubai Economy, which regulates many of the city’s restaurants and shops, ordered a two-week ban on March 12 to curb the spread of coronavirus. Abu Dhabi has imposed the same.

The authority is conducting inspections with Dubai Municipality to ensure compliance with the order.

It urged the public to report cafes seen flouting rules by calling 600 54 5555 or visiting www.consumerrights.ae
