DUBAI // The Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation has donated Dh1 million to the National Awqaf Foundation of Canada to help spread the teachings of Islam in Canada.

The contribution, honouring the will of late foundation donor Ahmed Baghlaf, was divided into three parts: Dh500,000 for building schools that teach moderate Islamic values and principles; Dh250,000 to promote Islamic Dawah; and Dh250,000 to support preachers.

“These efforts are in line with Dubai’s strategy to become a global capital of Islamic economy,” said Tayeb Al Rais, secretary general of the foundation.

“We also aim to raise awareness of our vision for Awqaf among expat Muslims to accelerate their endowments and contributions, and better support global humanitarian agendas.”

Imad Kaddoura, secretary general of Awqaf Canada, said that the funds would enable it to introduce educational and Dawah programmes to promote the Islamic spirit of moderation and tolerance throughout Canada and North America.
