ABU DHABI // Public prosecution has ordered the arrest of man accused of insulting the Federal National Council in online video.
Prosecutors said the man, who was not an FNC candidate, appeared in the video offending and insulting the candidates and their campaigns.
He claimed that he would promote crimes and obscene acts if he was elected to the council. The video was shared on social media apps during elections.
Public prosecution explained that the UAE penal code prosecutes anyone who offends and insults others. Also, the FNC is one of the three authorities set up as per the constitution.
The Abu Dhabi Attorney General stressed that this procedure did not contradict freedom of expression.
