DUBAI // A regional social media club is to be created to encourage development, progress and creativity in the Arab world.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, issued directives for the launch of the Arab Social Media Influencers Club, which will be based in the UAE with branches across the region.
The aim is to increase Arab youth’s participation in the Middle East’s development and growth, said Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Chairwoman of the Arab Social Media Influencers Summit’s organising committee.
She said that youth comprise 25 per cent of the region’s population, and 75 per cent of them are 18 to 25 years old. Most receive information through social media.
“We have confidence in the ability of social media influencers to create new dimensions for this unprecedented penetration of social media platforms,” she told attendees, according to Wam, the state news agency.
“You have a responsibility to help create positive change through these platforms.”
The summit opened on Tuesday at Dubai World Trade Centre and will end on Wednesday.
