NEW YORK // The UAE has strongly condemned the acts of recruiting and financing global terrorist operations, in a statement read at the UN Security Council summit.

The statement reflects the country’s position on the growing trend of foreign fighters joining terrorist groups, including ISIL, state news agency Wam reported.

Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarmen, assistant minister for political affairs at the UN summit, read the statement on behalf of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, the Foreign Minister.

The UAE welcomed a resolution passed by the Security Council that demands member nations take action to prevent foreign fighters from travelling to Iraq and Syria to join extremist groups such as ISIL.

Addressing the threat of terrorism also requires the pursuit of a comprehensive international strategy that prevents recruitment, the UAE said.

The country is studying ways to prevent terrorist organisations from using social networks for recruitment purposes, the statement said, according to Wam.
