DUBAI // A bank worker and civil servant were among the winners of a Global Village raffle prize draw that saw them take home Dh50,000 each.
They are the first four weekly winners who share part of a Dh1 million prize fund launched to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the family attraction.
The winners are Sharjah resident Fayez Aziz Shakour, 33, from India who works at Dubai Islamic Bank.
He entered the draw after buying a Dh15 ticket and has been a regular participant in the raffle draw.
“I had already agreed to split the winnings with friends whoever might win the prize and I will use my share to help out friends in need,” he said.
For Abu Dhabi resident Muhammad Omran, also from India, it was first time lucky after scooping a winning ticket in his only visit to Global Village.
The security company employee initially thought the phone call informing him of the win was a prank.
Emirati Khaled Abdulraheim, from Fujairah, a civil employee and father of eight is a weekly visitor at the attraction.
Jordanian tourist Fadi Saleh, 30, claimed a winning ticket while on a visit to the UAE.
The married father of two works as a computer programmer in Saudi Arabia plans to spend his winnings on helping his father and starting his own business.
The winners are announced every Saturday on the Global Village website and social media and in total 20 visitors will each take home Dh50,000 until the end of the season on April 9.
