DUBAI// A 47-year-old German who was wanted by police was arrested after trying to leave the UAE using a forged French passport, the Dubai Criminal Court was told.

S R was arrested as he was trying to board a plane to Manilla on June 3 this year.

“At nearly 7.30pm I was at the Terminal 1 at Dubai International Airport, I obtained my boarding pass but when I got to the passport control desk I was banned from traveling and told that my passport had forged stamps on it,” said S R in records.

The executive manager was wanted by authorities in Sharjah and Dubai over unpaid fines and a two-month jail sentence issued against him in his absence. Records did not explain the reason for the sentence.

He was charged with aiding and abetting an unidentified person in making a forged passport. He was also charged with using the passport.

S R did not enter a plea in court. His lawyer asked for S R to be granted bail but the court rejected the request.

S R said in records that he was laid off from his work, which lead to the accumulation of debts and financial dues. Prosecutors said he then made the forgery after paying a man Dh20,000.

The next hearing will be on September 8.
