ABU DHABI // A gang of 10 Pakistani men has been arrested for carrying out an alleged mobile phone credit scam.
Sharjah Police CID received information that the gang were carrying out the scam from a rented apartment in a neighbouring emirate.
The men are accused of randomly selecting mobile numbers and posing as representatives of large companies claiming the victim had won a prize. They would then ask for cash in the form of phone credit to allow for the processing and collection of the bogus prizes.
A team from the technology crime section was formed to follow up on the case. The suspects were later arrested in cooperation with Ajman Police. A large number of mobile SIM cards and smartphones, as well as cash, were found at their apartment.
All 10 men confessed and were referred to public prosecution.
