A gang has been arrested for stealing Dh130,000 from a man's car in Ajman.
The four men were arrested at the airport attempting to board a plane and flee the country a few days after the Asian victim reported the theft, said Maj Ahmed Al Nuaimi, director of Ajman Police's Criminal Investigations.
"The victim had withdrawn the money from his bank account then headed to a shop, leaving the money in an envelope in his car. When he returned, the money was gone," said Maj Al Nuaimi.
Police questioned witnesses and were able to identify the car the gang used to drive away after stealing the money, leading them to the four suspects.
Investigators tracked the Arab men to Sharjah International Airport and arrested them just before they boarded a plane. The money was found in their possession.
"They admitted to stealing the money, which was all retrieved," he said.
The men were referred to public prosecution for further legal action.
Maj Al Nuaimi warned the public to be careful when carrying large amounts of money and to refrain from leaving any valuables in their cars.
