DUBAI // Five men and a woman who allegedly stole jewellery worth Dh2 million in a 31-second heist on Friday have been arrested.

The Asian gang, which robbed the jewellery store in Naif at 5am, were found at a flat in International City, police said.

Officers raided the flat within 24 hours of the theft and found tools used in the crime. Some of the stolen jewellery had been melted down, police said.

The gang is also suspected of being involved in robberies in Hong Kong.

They arrived in the UAE on tourist visas on March 16 and stayed for two days before leaving for a GCC country. They returned to the UAE on April 1, said Maj Gen Khalil Al Mansouri, assistant chief of criminal investigation.

“On Friday, three masked members of the gang broke the store front at 5am, stole the jewellery and fled the scene,” he said.

“They hid their faces from CCTV cameras and choose the opportune time to carry out the raid. That suggests they were professionals.”

Police have referred the case to public prosecution.
