DUBAI// Four men will spend a year in jail each for stealing Dh40,000 worth of mobile phones and electronic devices from a shop.

Dubai Criminal Court convicted Afghans M A, 24, Q Z, 33, N M, 31, and R M, 36, of burglary. The court was told that the men broke into an electronics shop in Naif on September 29 last year and stole Dh21,000 worth of smart phones.

Indian salesman R, 44, testified that he arrived to open the shop and discovered the glass door was smashed. “I called police,” said R.

He said the shop was raided a second time on October 8 the same year.

“This time mobiles and electric devices worth Dh19,000 were stolen,” said R.

Emirati policeman B A, 27, testified that M A, Q Z, N M, and R M were arrested for their role in previous similar crimes and confessed.

“They said they robbed the shop and sold the stolen items after which each one took Dh6,000,” said the officer.

M A confessed to a charge of burglary in court and also during police and prosecution investigations. The others denied the charge in court last September.

“I was not even in the country at the times of these incidents,” said Q Z who was asked by the court to provide evidence to back his claim, which he did not.

All four will be deported after serving their jail terms.
