Four charged with killing Indian they believed ran prostitution ring

Four Indians charged with murdering one of their compatriots killed him because they believed he was running a prostitution ring, police say.

SHARJAH // Four Indians who have been charged with murdering one of their compatriots killed him because they believed he was running a prostitution ring, police said yesterday. Brig Yousef Musa al Naqbi, the head of the Sharjah Criminal Investigations Department, said that the police were told by Kuwaiti Hospital last week that an Indian national died after reaching the hospital with stab wounds.

Police officials interviewed the brother of the deceased, who had taken him to the hospital. He told police that his brother said that when he arrived at home, two people intercepted him and stabbed him. The attackers then rushed back to a vehicle containing two other people and drove away. Police said that according to their investigations, the deceased was believed by his attackers to be operating a prostitution ring.

Police arrested four suspects on Friday, and all four confessed to the crime, according to Brig al Naqbi. They have been charged with murder. "One of them told us that they are against prostitution and that they killed him because he was promoting prostitution," Brig al Naqbi said. [e-mail]
