ABU DHABI // Mubarak Al Duwailah, a former Kuwaiti MP, has been referred to the Federal Supreme Court on sedition charges.
The Attorney General, Salim Kubaish, said an investigation had found Mr Al Duwailah “abused religion to incite sedition, harm national unity, disturb social peace and intentionally spread false news, circulate rumours and disseminate provocative and malicious propaganda”.
“During an interview with Al Majlis TV channel of Kuwait’s national assembly, he falsely alleged that the UAE was against the Sunni Islam school and was imposing such an approach on its authorities,” Mr Kubaish said.
Mr Al Duwailah is expected to be prosecuted in his absence. No date has been set for the trial.
