ABU DHABI // A fire gutted 16 stalls in the fruit and vegetable market in Mina Zayed on Sunday.
The fire destroyed the stores before fire crews were able to contain the blaze, which started at 5am. No injuries were reported.
Emergency response teams extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading to neighbouring areas and shops, said Col Abdullah Al Zaabi, acting director of Abu Dhabi Civil Defence.
The fire was classified as upper intermediate, he said, and an investigation have been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
Traffic and police teams from Al Madina Police Station participated in logistical support, the Ministry of Interior said.
