ABU DHABI // The Mother of the Nation Festival will celebrate mothers with a wide range of activities on Corniche beach in the capital later this month.
Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority has organised the festival, which pays homage to all mothers and their focus on developing healthy families and encouraging teamwork.
The festival will highlight the vision of Sheikha Fatima, widow of the late Sheikh Zayed, who is known as the Mother of the Nation, and the importance of family coherence and cultural understanding.
With more than 19 attractions, 15 workshops and 420 shows, the Active Zone will highlight the importance of healthy bodies and minds. The festival runs from March 24 to April 2.
The activities cater to people of all ages and abilities, while those not wishing to take part can just take time out to enjoy a range of relaxing activities with friends and family on the Corniche.
Also available will be archery, Batak – which is designed to test reaction times – a football shoot-out, dune bashing radio-controlled cars in a sand pit and performers demonstrating yoyo tricks.
A mini-golf course and a 3-D table tennis activity are also expected to be popular among visitors, while a free-fall jump from a 12-metre launchpad on to an inflatable base and a 35m-long zip slide will keep thrillseekers amused.
The festival will open its doors daily from 4pm to midnight and tickets can be bought at the entrance for Dh20 per adult and Dh10 for children under 12. Children five and under go free.
Proceeds from the festival will be donated to a charity chosen by the organising committee.
