DUBAI // A man raped his part-time cleaner, a court has heard.
Syrian M A, 32, grabbed the Filipina, 22, dragged her to his bed and forced himself upon her, prosecutors said.
Afterwards she fled and reported him but he told police she had seduced him and that the sex was consensual.
The Criminal Court heard the attack happened the day after the maid arrived in the country, on May 23 this year, to start working for a cleaning services company.
She was sent to the man’s flat, in a tower block opposite her staff accommodation. She finished cleaning in two hours and asked for the Dh100 fee.
“He said the charge for two hours should be Dh70 and asked if I had Dh30 change,” the maid said.
He offered her the Dh30 as a tip and gave her a packet of biscuits and some sun lotion, saying he did not need it because it was a product for women.
“He told me the TV still needed dusting,” the maid added.
When she started cleaning it, he grabbed her from behind and dragged her to the bed. She resisted but was overpowered and he raped her, prosecutors said.
Afterwards she pulled her trousers up and ran outside screaming and crying hysterically.
She reported the attack to her manager but he could not understand her because she was so upset. She later told her roommate, who in turn spoke to the manager and the police were informed.
During police interrogations, the man confessed to having consensual sex with the maid and claimed she seduced him.
In court he denied a charge of rape and said the pair did not have sex. The next hearing was scheduled for October 23.
