Family and friends of a kindergarten teacher who died in a car crash in Ras Al Khaimah this week have spoken of her tragic loss.
Fatima bin Awish Al Shahhi, 32, died on Tuesday when her Porsche veered off the road and smashed into a central reservation.
The mother-of-four had been a popular figure at Al Bashayer Kindergarten in the emirate, where she taught English.
A second teacher from the school, Mouza Al Shahhi, 29, was also in the car at the time of the accident and is currently recovering from her injuries.
Salem bin Awish Al Shahhi, the brother of Ms Al Shahhi, described seeing his sister off for work on the morning of the tragedy.
“She came to our parent’s house early in the morning and we had breakfast together,” he said.
“When I heard about the accident I immediately rushed to Saqr Hospital but they told me that she had died.
“Her body was thrown out of the car during the crash and she was severally injured.
“She was a very kind person, caring and loving. We will miss our youngest sister very much and believe that she’s now in a better place.”
Hessa Al Raysi, an administrator at the kindergarten, also expressed her shock at the teacher’s death.
“She was very kind, well-behaved and loved by everyone in the school,” she said.
“We can’t believe that she died in the accident. She was about to move to a new house and has a new-born baby girl called Hind.
“She always used to take care of her students and work hard on developing their language skills through creative activities and workshops.”
Hessa Mohammed, 37, described Ms Al Shahhi as one of the kindergarten’s best teachers.
“My daughter only joined the school last year and didn’t know anything about the English language,” she said.
“But with the efforts and dedication of Ms Al Shahhi she started reading and writing.
“Myself and all the other mothers were devastated when we heard about her death. We are all going to miss her big smile and kind heart.”
