UAE weather: stunning shot taken over Abu Dhabi as fog returns for a fifth day

It will remain damp for much of the day with temperatures of about 27°C on the coast

An Abu Dhabi resident captured a stunning image of the early morning fog illuminated by city lights.

Green, red and white patches shine through, as the tallest of the buildings peek above the blanket, in the picture shared on social media.

“Wow what an ethereal start to the day. The fog is amazing,” wrote Jono Haysom on Twitter.

A second image snapped after sunrise shows the fog beginning to dissipate, revealing smaller towers below.

Murky weather returned for a fifth day to parts of the UAE on Thursday as transport into the capital was disrupted by the bad weather.

Some commuters reported the suspension of bus services and struggles to catch a taxi because some drivers were prevented from starting their shifts until the thick fog lifted.

Forecasters issued a red alert warning of fog over a large area of the country, stretching from the coast to deep inland.

Police also reduced the speed limit on a number of major roads as the murky weather severely impacted visibility.

The fog is expected to dissipate about 10.30am, leaving a dusty and partly cloudy day accompanied by a dip in temperatures, especially in the west.

After a chilly start of 8°C inland and 14°C on the coast, temperatures could reach up to 27°C on the coast and 28°C inland.

Moderate winds, which will be gusty at times, will bring suspended dust and sand.

Conditions in the Arabian Gulf will be moderate to rough, worsening in the afternoon. The Oman Sea will be slight to moderate, becoming rough at night.

Friday will be dusty and cloudy, with a significant drop in temperatures, according to the National Centre of Meteorology. Winds will be gusty at times.

Conditions will be similar on Saturday.

The dust should clear before the start of the working week to leave a partly cloudy day on Sunday.
