SHARJAH // Residents have been warned of the dangers of buying pesticides from unauthorised sellers.
Sharjah Municipality has launched an awareness campaign targeting densely populated areas in the emirate.
Jafar Ali, from the pest control division at the municipality, said the use of pesticides can lead to death.
“Residents should not use pesticides or hire unknown vendors — these actions can lead to fatalities. We have authorised and monitored pest control companies,” he said.
Warning stickers in three languages were put on residential buildings. The stickers had pictures of banned pesticide products, and a hotline number to report illegal sellers.
“We have targeted highly populated areas in Sharjah, such as Al Nahda, Abu Shugara, Al Majaz. Officers talked to building watchmen to report vendors to the authorities,” Mr Ali added.
He urged residents to check the municipality website for approved vendors, and to call 993 to report anyone selling pesticides illegally.
