In celebration of the 19th UAE National Environment Day, the Zayed Future Energy Prize is asking schools to submit proposals for projects that promote renewable energy and sustainability.
Submissions may include any project that reduces a school’s consumption of energy, water or resources. The winning applicants will be receive funding up to Dh365,000.
In 2013, the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Bangladesh Islamia School in Abu Dhabi was awarded the top prize with the money paying for the installation of smart solar panels, which now supply 30 per cent of the school’s energy needs, and research to develop a new wind tower cooling system.
Schools around the world have been helped to incorporate renewable energy and sustainability into their academic environment as part of the contest.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Abu Dhabi next year.
